Q: What do the monks of Luang Prabang, Laos, have in common with my two daughters (ages 5 and 3)?
A: They’re wide awake by 5.30am every day.
By the way, if you’re in Luang Prabang and you happen to wake early to watch the monks collecting alms, the best place for a cheap caffeine fix once you’re done is the Paseneyom Coffee Shop. It’s on the main Mekong River road, Th Khem Khong, just around the corner from the morning market. The coffee is so strong (and sweet) it’ll make you gasp, and the fritters are cloggingly brilliant.
